How long does the foster parent certification process take?

The length of time varies depending on the individual’s availability. In most cases, the process takes between one to three months.

How much does it cost to become a foster parent?

The cost to become a foster parent varies. However, the agency will cover Live Scan fees, initial and on-going training, clinical support by a social worker, etc.

How many training hours are required and when are they offered?

To become a foster parent, 12 hours of training is required. This does not include orientation, First AID/CPR.

Once I am a foster parent, how much support do I receive?

A social worker is assigned to your home upon placement. The clinician visits bi-weekly and monitors the placement. Social workers are on call 24/7 to answer phone calls, provide support, and work with families through crisis situations.

Can I be a foster parent and still maintain a full-time career?

Yes, we have providers that maintain a full-time career and who are a foster parent.

Do I need my own home?

No, it is not a requirement to own your own home to become a foster parent. The only requirement is that you provide a safe and healing home environment.

Is there financial assistance to help pay for the child’s care?

Yes, all foster parents are offered financial assistance to ensure each child has clothing, food, and health/dental insurance.
